Things I Love - Fall Design Trends

Within the next few weeks, we will start to see the leaves changing colours, the mornings become crisp and everything flavoured with pumpkin spice. Fall is just around the corner.

So as we rid our wardrobes of the shorts and sandals in favour of scarfs and cardigans, we should also be looking at switching up our interior decor to compliment the change in season.

The consensus from designers everywhere is the trends we are expecting for the fall 2021 season are cozy fabrics, warm, earthy tones, plaids/tartan, and since we are seeing a 70's boho resurgence in fashion this fall we can also expect it to make its way into our homes as well.

Chunky Knits

If you are anything like me there is nothing better on a crisp fall day than cuddling up on the couch with a cup of tea under a big cozy blanket, ask my husband he'll tell you all about my addiction to blankets.

Adding chunky knitted blankets to your home this fall adds a texture element for a quick way to change up your decor and gives your home a warm, sophisticated, relaxed feel that will extend into the cold winter season.

Plaid & Tartan

I love me some tartan, yes I'm Scottish so I'm pretty sure I bleed tartan but it is also the perfect pattern for the fall season. This cozy design is so versatile and adds depth and dimension to any home decor. So whether you are choosing buffalo check patterns or a deep rich tartan colour, you should definitely be using it this fall.

Fall Colours

Rich reds, oranges, browns have been synonymous with fall, they remind us of the colours of changing leaves so it's not unusual to see those colours make their way into our homes. This year we are seeing muted, warm earth tones in all aspects of design, with terracotta being front and center. We are also seeing a trend towards matte colours instead of polished looks which adds a sense of calm and relaxation to our homes, perfect for those lazy days beside the fire.

Bohemian Vibes

Think natural textures, wood, any inspiration you can gather from nature. Jute, cotton, hemp, linen, silk are just some of the fabrics we are seeing have a boost in popularity lately. Not only are they used in home textiles but we are seeing them being used in other variations of decor such as wall art, baskets, planter hangers. These natural textures are a perfect addition to fall decor as it brings an element of the outdoors in which helps bring a relaxing atmosphere into the home.

Cozy, layered bedrooms

Yes, when one thinks of bedrooms, cozy and comfortable should always be synonymous, but this year we are seeing designers take it to the next level. Remember those chunky knits I talked about earlier, well you are loading those up on your bed too. Layering is the key this fall. Layer your window coverings, layer your rugs, and layer your bed linens. We want to take cozy to the extreme and I am here for it.
